Andriy Shevchenko, President of the Ukrainian Association of Football, announced that final decisions regarding the future of the national team will be made by the end of April. Shevchenko made this statement during his speech at the UAF Congress, as reported by the UAF press service, according to UNN.
The Ukrainian national team stopped one step short of the World Cup final. Only once in all the years of independence, exactly 20 years ago, did Ukraine manage to qualify for the world championship. Getting into the tournament through European qualification is not easy, but it does not relieve us of responsibility for the result. We need to take balanced steps to improve it. By the end of April, we will make final decisions in favor of the national team's future. We need to prepare as best as possible for the Nations League to start the qualification for the next European Championship with dignity.
He noted that the UAF understands the real state of affairs in Ukraine but does not "stop and is already working to minimize losses from war restrictions."

The Ukrainian national team finished second in their quartet in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, alongside France, Iceland, and Azerbaijan.
In March, Ukraine lost to Sweden in the play-offs for the World Cup, which will be held in Canada, the USA, and Mexico.
It should be noted that Serhiy Rebrov took charge of the Ukrainian national team in June 2023. Since then, under Rebrov's leadership, the national team has played 34 matches, winning 16 times, drawing 8 times, and losing 10 games, including, as already mentioned, the match against Sweden, and also the decisive match against Belgium for promotion to Division A of the Nations League.
Rebrov's current contract is valid until the end of July 2026.
