Details

On Friday, the head of state made statements to the press following a meeting of the Supreme Council of National Defense (CSAT) at the Cotroceni Palace, convened after a Russian drone crashed into a residential building in Galați. The strike resulted in an explosion and a fire in a 10th-floor apartment.

"Last night, a serious incident occurred in which two citizens were injured, and the full responsibility for this lies with Russia. The Russian Consul General in Constanța has been declared persona non grata, and the consulate in Constanța will be closed," Nicușor Dan stated.

"In the CSAT, we also discussed civil defense. The response last night was very swift, and the Minister of Internal Affairs presented measures already taken for the entire potentially dangerous zone—increasing personnel and other measures. So, in this regard, we are ready," the President added.

It is noted that the head of state discussed the incident in Galați with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, calling it "the most serious security incident on Romanian territory since the beginning of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine."

In turn, Mark Rutte expressed the Alliance's "full solidarity" with Romania and confirmed that NATO is "ready to defend every inch of allied territory."
