Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has expressed her readiness to mediate negotiations between the United States and Venezuela to prevent a large-scale regional conflict. The statement came after Donald Trump ordered a blockade of sanctioned oil tankers operating through Venezuelan ports and significantly increased military presence in the region. This is reported by Bloomberg, writes UNN.
Details
During a press conference, Sheinbaum emphasized her country's neutral position in this confrontation.
We can always act as a point of negotiation if the parties wish. They will have to offer it to us, and if not, they will have to seek mediators who can help avoid any conflict in the region.
The Mexican leader also called on the UN to join in finding a peaceful solution, noting that such blockades primarily harm the civilian population.
Recall
The situation on the water has already moved into an active phase: last week, the US seized a sanctioned tanker off the coast of Venezuela.
In addition, the Pentagon launched dozens of strikes on vessels allegedly linked to drug trafficking, and the White House does not rule out the possibility of striking targets directly on land.
Even earlier, the US Navy's "Gerald R. Ford" aircraft carrier strike group arrived in the Caribbean.
