Boeing considers upgrading Patriot missiles amid record global demand

 • 3309 переглядiв

The American company Boeing is exploring new technologies to modernize the guidance systems of Patriot missiles to increase production volumes and reduce costs without losing combat effectiveness. Demand for these interceptor missiles is growing due to active use in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. This is reported by Axios, writes UNN.

Details

Boeing, a subcontractor to Lockheed Martin in the production of Patriot systems, announced research into modernizing its guidance systems. According to Jack Bryan, head of the company's division, this involves integrating more solid-state components that require less maintenance, and optimizing the design through more compact packaging of elements.

The goal is to find a balance between reducing costs, increasing production rates, and maintaining the current level of performance.

The combination of technologies we have today works very well. There is some apprehension about spoiling a really good recipe.

- Bryan noted during the Space and Missile Defense Symposium in Alabama.

Since 2000, Boeing has produced over 5,000 Patriot guidance missiles, and last year the company reached a record of over 500 deliveries. Today, the US Army's main request is "how many and how fast."

They (the US - ed.) say they need infinity now

- Bryan noted.

The popularity of Patriot has grown after active use in Eastern European countries and the Middle East, particularly for protecting Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. According to Aviation Week, Lockheed Martin is preparing for a sharp increase in interceptor production.

People want it because it works. This weapon speaks for itself and practically sells itself

- Bryan concluded.

Recall

Germany will transfer additional Patriot launchers to Ukraine. In the second phase, over the next 2-3 months, other system components will also be transferred.
