Over 805 thousand applications have already been submitted by applicants to higher education institutions, according to interim results of the admission campaign as of July 28, published by the Ministry of Education and Science, which named the currently most popular universities for admission and how priorities are distributed, reports UNN.
In Ukraine, the main stage of the admission campaign is ongoing — submission of applications for bachelor's and medical master's programs. As of 9:00 a.m. on July 28, applicants submitted 805,822 applications
How many applicants with the highest results have already made their choice
2,262 applicants with the maximum results of the main session of the NMT-2026 have already submitted at least one application for admission. Among such applicants, the following fields became the most popular:
- Philology — 459 applications.
- Computer Science — 384 applications.
- Economics — 349 applications.
- Software Engineering — 311 applications.
- International Relations — 308 applications.
This snapshot, as noted, allows us to see not only popular fields but also in which areas applicants with the highest results plan to build their professional path.
First priority is the real choice of the applicant
In 2026, an applicant can submit up to 10 applications, of which no more than five — to participate in the competition for state-funded places. As of July 28, one applicant who has already started submitting applications has submitted an average of four applications.
Currently registered:
- 171,549 applications with first priority;
- 132,292 — with second;
- 106,948 — with third;
- 90,444 — with fourth;
- 74,158 — with fifth.
First priority is the most desirable study option for the applicant. After submitting an application, its priority cannot be changed. If an applicant cancels an application, the used priority number is not restored.
State-funded or contract — which strategy applicants choose
An application with first priority for a competitive offer with the possibility of studying on a state-funded basis was submitted by 107,324 applicants. A contract offer was designated as first priority by 64,225 applicants.
Another 18,317 applicants applied a combined strategy: submitted an application with first priority for state-funded and with second — for contract under the same educational program.
"Important: if an applicant receives a recommendation for state-funded but refuses it, a state grant for studying on a contract will no longer be offered to them. Therefore, the order of priorities should be determined with particular care," the Ministry of Education and Science emphasized.
Where the most applications are submitted
As of July 27, the most applications were received by:
- Lviv Polytechnic National University — 36,675.
- Ivan Franko National University of Lviv — 30,206.
- National Technical University of Ukraine 'Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute' — 24,826.
- Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv — 22,271.
- Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University — 17,887.
- State University of Trade and Economics — 17,654.
- Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University — 17,002.
- National University 'Odesa Law Academy' — 15,328.
- Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman — 14,805.
- Lutsk National Technical University — 12,776.
The most applications were received by institutions in:
- Kyiv — 189,408;
- Lviv region — 103,627;
- Odesa region — 68,675;
- Kharkiv region — 54,634;
- Vinnytsia region — 36,089;
- Dnipropetrovsk region — 35,439;
- Ivano-Frankivsk region — 34,514;
In frontline regions, demand for education persists
Applicants continue to choose studying at universities in frontline regions. A total of 219,411 (29%) applications were submitted to educational institutions in regions that have increased regional coefficients in 2026.
In particular:
- Odesa — 68,675;
- Kharkiv — 54,634;
- Dnipropetrovsk — 35,439;
- Poltava — 24,860;
- Zaporizhzhia — 13,392;
- Mykolaiv — 8,188;
- Sumy — 7,756;
- Chernihiv — 6,467.
"The number of applications should not be perceived as the final number of future students in the region: one applicant can submit applications to several institutions and regions," the Ministry of Education and Science noted.
How youth from temporarily occupied territories are enrolling
As of July 28, under quota-2, 26,744 applications were submitted by 7,156 applicants.
Quota-2 is a separate set of reserved budget-funded places for applicants whose place of residence is registered or declared in temporarily occupied territories or areas of active hostilities. Such applicants participate in a separate competition and compete for budget-funded places within their quota.
Addendum
Submitting applications for bachelor's and medical master's programs will last until 6:00 PM on August 1, 2026. No later than August 6, applicants will see recommendations for enrollment in budget-funded places in their electronic accounts. After receiving a recommendation, applicants must confirm their choice of study place and fulfill the requirements of the educational institution by 6:00 PM on August 11. Enrollment in budget-funded places will take place no later than August 13. Participants of the additional NMT session have the same admission rights as participants of the main session. The results of the additional session have already been posted in personal accounts, so applicants have time to submit applications before the end of the main period. Before submitting their first application, applicants who are eligible for special conditions of participation in the admission campaign need to ensure that the relevant category has been entered into the Unified State Electronic Database on Education.
