Zelenskyy expects approval of EU loan and new sanctions against Russia: first tranche expected by end of May - beginning of June

Ukraine expects a positive decision from the European Union regarding a credit program worth 90 billion euros and anticipates the first tranche of funding in the near future, while also hoping for the unblocking of a new package of sanctions against Russia. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told journalists about this, as reported by UNN.

According to the President, Kyiv worked to achieve a positive result and fulfilled all its obligations.

"Undoubtedly, we count on and worked for a positive result, so that the 90 billion euros for us would be unblocked – this is a priority. And, of course, it is very important that the 20th sanctions package is unblocked."

The head of state added that Ukraine expects the first tranche of funding in the near future.

"The first tranche, which we are counting on, we will bring forward as quickly as possible, so that we receive the money by the end of May – beginning of June."

Zelenskyy explained that the received funds are planned to be directed towards defense, social support for citizens, and the development of Ukrainian weapons production.

"First of all, this is social support for our people, it is support for our army and the production of drones, electronic warfare systems. This is also strengthening our army and the domestic production of Ukrainian weapons," he emphasized.

Separately, the President noted that Ukraine also counts on further sanctions strengthening against the Russian economy.

"We need to put pressure on Russian energy, on Russia's shadow fleet. We are constantly working on this," Zelenskyy stressed.
