Usyk could become a defendant in one of the most high-profile court cases in the history of modern boxing - Media

Frank Warren, promoter of interim WBC world boxing champion Agit Kabayel, stated that he would sue the WBC if it does not organize a heavyweight title defense fight between current champion Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk and his mandatory challenger, who is his protégé. This was reported by Boxing Scene, informs UNN.

Details

The publication indicates that Kabayel won the vacant interim belt by knockout victory over Zhilei Zhang in February 2025. Since then, the German has patiently waited for his chance against Usyk, defending the interim title in a fight against Damian Knyba.

The WBC announced at its annual convention in December that it would allow Usyk a voluntary defense – it was then expected that he would fight Deontay Wilder – before obliging him to then face Kabayel. Since then, the WBC has faced criticism for sanctioning Usyk's defense against kickboxer Rico Verhoeven on May 16 in Egypt.

Even before the title was on the line, the fight itself was ridiculed because Usyk had a long line of worthy contenders – perhaps with Kabayel at the forefront – and fighting the completely unworthy Verhoeven effectively delayed victory in the rest of the division

- the article states.

The Ukrainian has already stated that after an expected victory over Verhoeven, he wants to meet the winner of the WBO title fight on May 9 between Fabio Wardley and Daniel Dubois, and then Tyson Fury.

Kabayel is number one in the WBC, and after the fight in Egypt between Usyk and Rico Verhoeven, the WBC will have to announce a mandatory fight, and if they don't, we will sue them. I'm telling you, I'm not going to put up with this, Agit deserves his chance, he should be there, and if anyone tries to avoid this fight, they will have to vacate, it's that simple. Fight Agit or vacate

- said Kabayel's promoter.

At the same time, he added that he is a big fan of Usyk, "he is a true warrior, why wouldn't he want to fight him?"

Recall

WBC, WBA, and IBF heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk will have his next fight against Dutch kickboxer Rico Verhoeven. The fight will take place on May 23 in Egypt.
