Ukrainian sports leaders, including Matviy Bidnyi, Vadym Gutzeit, and Yuriy Kopytko, in a joint letter called for the suspension of russian and belarusian athletes from the Paris Olympics because of their support for the war against Ukraine.
They emphasized that it is unacceptable to allow athletes from aggressor countries to participate in international competitions. The letter drew attention to athletes known to be agents of hybrid influence of the russian federation, including Vanessa Kaladzinska, Zaurbek Sidakov, Zavur Uguev, Milad Alirzaev, Serhiy Semenov, Nadezhda Sokolova, Alina Kasabieva, Hanum Veliyeva, Natalia Malysheva and Artur Naifonov.
The heads of Ukrainian sports institutions call on international partners to take measures to comply with the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee regarding the neutral status of athletes from russia and belarus, and to prevent them from participating in international competitions.
