Military Ombudsman Olha Reshetylova reported that about 16,000 foreign volunteers from 72 countries serve in the Defense Forces, with nearly 40% of them from Latin America. The office has received more than 300 complaints regarding payments, UBD status, and medical support.

According to Reshetylova, since the Office of the Military Ombudsman began operating on January 27, it has received more than 300 appeals from foreign volunteers, their family members, and authorized representatives.

What issues are most frequently raised by foreign military personnel
The Office of the Military Ombudsman reported that the appeals most often concern the payment of financial support and benefits, the granting of combatant status, early termination of contracts, and medical care.
A special working group has been established to protect the rights of foreign volunteers. It accompanies them at all stages of their service – from its beginning until their discharge or return to their homeland. The Office emphasized that it responds to every report of possible violations of servicemembers’ rights, regardless of whether it was received through an official appeal, the media, or foreign civil society organizations.
