US President Donald Trump said that Russia would face "very serious consequences" if Putin did not agree to a ceasefire deal later this week. He announced this after a phone call with European leaders ahead of a meeting with the Russian president in Alaska. This is reported by UNN with reference to Bloomberg.

During his communication with journalists, Trump emphasized that he sought to organize a second meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, which, in his opinion, could be "more productive than the first." He assured allies that he would not discuss the transfer of Ukrainian territories with Putin and would insist on direct dialogue between the Russian and Ukrainian leaders.

European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, emphasized that any territorial decisions must be made exclusively with the participation of Ukraine. Moscow, according to Bloomberg, demands that Kyiv transfer all of eastern Donbas and Crimea as a condition for a ceasefire, but Zelenskyy said he would not cede any territory.
The talks took place after several days of intense diplomacy between the US, Europe, and Ukraine. Allies stressed that a ceasefire should be the first step towards official peace talks, and that Ukraine needs reliable security guarantees.
