U.S. President Donald Trump suggested that economic pressure, rather than a military operation, would force Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He noted that the United States is acting cautiously and holding semi-negotiations with Iran.
U.S. President Donald Trump suggested that he would allow economic pressure to push Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz rather than launch a new military operation, UNN reports, citing the Guardian.
"We are acting cautiously," Trump told Axios. Trump's comments came several hours after Iran said it would not open the vital waterway unless the United States met its demands, which, according to Axios, include refraining from insults and threats against the country.
"We are only holding half-negotiations with them," Trump also told the news website. "We are simply watching Iran with its enormous inflation and the fact that they have no money."
Trump, who said that Iran "is in a very bad position," claimed that Americans are experiencing less financial pressure because of the war as oil prices have fallen.
"Everything will work out. It always does. It’s like a game of chess," Trump reportedly also said.
