Trump said he was asked to cancel the planned strike by allies such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Iran.
"We were all ready to go, but when the allies asked to cancel it, they made us say: 'Well, let's see.' And the reason they are asking is because they think there is a deal," Trump said.
"There is a deal on the Strait of Hormuz, and then there will be a deal on the nuclear program, or maybe it's the denuclearization of Iran. I call it the denuclearization of Iran," he added.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman held a phone conversation with Trump, during which he insisted on de-escalation of the war, Saudi Arabia's state news agency reported on Sunday. Earlier, sources told CNN that the crown prince expressed concern about plans to strike Iran during the call.
Trump declined to answer questions about whether the attack would target energy facilities, but still emphasized in a Saturday Truth Social post that the United States remains "ready to act" against Iran.
Iranian state media deny that they asked Trump to stop the planned attacks.
