The Zaporizhzhia NPP experienced its 12th blackout since the beginning of the year

Today, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant again lost external power supply. The plant operated on diesel generators for about an hour, and power has now been restored, reports UNN with reference to "Energoatom."

On August 4, the Zaporizhzhia NPP again lost external power supply. As a result, the plant operated on diesel generators for about an hour, which are a backup power source to ensure nuclear and radiation safety. At 14:20, power supply to the ZNPP was restored.

- the statement reads.

According to Energoatom, a similar situation occurred just a few days earlier – on August 1. This is already the 12th blackout of the Zaporizhzhia NPP since the beginning of 2026 and the 24th since the start of the Russian occupation of the plant. That is, half of all ZNPP blackouts during the occupation occurred precisely in 2026.

Each loss of external power creates a direct threat to nuclear and radiation safety. The dependence of Europe's largest nuclear power plant on diesel generators is unacceptable and is further evidence of the critical risks caused by the illegal occupation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP. Only the return of the ZNPP to full control of Ukraine and its legal operator – JSC "NNEGC "Energoatom" – can guarantee the safe operation of the plant.
