According to preliminary CBO estimates, the first ship would cost about $23 billion, while each of the following 14 would cost approximately $18 billion. If the project is implemented, these battleships would become the most expensive warships in U.S. history.

Construction could be delayed
The CBO notes that creating nuclear-powered battleships would be technically challenging. Final assembly is planned to take place at Newport News Shipbuilding in Virginia, which is already behind schedule in building three Ford-class aircraft carriers.
The report warns that placing an additional burden on the facility could lead to further delays both in the aircraft carrier construction program and in the battleships themselves.
