The IAEA reports on forest fires near the occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant that threaten its external power supply. The fires were observed under the overhead cables of two power lines supplying the plant.
The outbreak of intense fires near the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhya NPP is another challenge faced by Europe's largest nuclear power plant, jeopardizing its external power supply. This is stated on the website of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), UNN reports .
Over the past week, the IAEA's International Support and Assistance Mission to Zaporizhzhia (ISAMZ) has observed fires several times at different distances from the ZNPP and nearby villages. Over the weekend, IAEA experts observed smoke coming from the area north of the ZNPP near the ZNPP inlet channel,
It is noted that the fire was under the overhead cables of the 750 kilovolt (kV) Dniprovska line and the 1,330 kV Ferosplavna backup power line, the last two external power lines remaining to supply ZNPP.
As the summer heat continues, such fires along the two remaining lines put ZNPP at risk of losing its external power supply. Although none of the lines were disconnected this time, the situation highlighted the fragility of ZNPP's external power supply,
