"Cultural appropriation, or simply put, the theft of someone else's cultural heritage, is traditionally part of the Russian hybrid arsenal. We have appealed to the competent French authorities regarding a blatant case of such appropriation by the organizers of the 'Russian film' festival in Paris, who decided to include in their program the emblematic film for Ukrainian cinema, Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors by Sergei Parajanov," the Ukrainian Cultural Center in France wrote on Facebook.
The center noted that "culture continues to be cynically used to legitimize Russian aggression." "It is known that for years this festival of 'Russian films' has relied on the support of the Russian authorities. It is obvious that despite the seemingly formal change of emphasis by the festival organizers, their methods remain largely unchanged," the Ukrainian Cultural Center emphasized.
