russia is working to create swarms of “shaheds” that would deplete Ukrainian air defense - The Guardian
Kyiv • UNN
According to the newspaper's sources, russia is working on introducing AI to coordinate swarms of drones to overwhelm Ukrainian air defense. To counteract this, Ukraine is developing FPV drones capable of shooting down “chessmen.
The Russian military is actively modifying Shahed-136 drones, which are called "geranium-2" in Russia, and working on the introduction of artificial intelligence. They expect "swarms of drones" to be able to coordinate attacks, but it is not yet clear how effective this technology will be. Military sources told The Guardianabout this, UNN writes.
Details
The publication writes that Russia has established the production of "Shaheds" at two factories in Tatarstan, 800 km from the Ukrainian border, and is making technological changes. In particular, a modification of the drone with a thermobaric warhead capable of creating a fire cloud with a temperature of up to 2000°C was recently discovered.
According to Ukrainian military sources, work is also underway to introduce artificial intelligence to create "drone swarms" that would allow the "shahids" to communicate and coordinate attacks in a way that would suppress air defense. However, it is unclear how effective this technology can be
The publication also writes that the Ukrainian defense forces are adapting to new threats. To combat the Shahed-136, cheap FPV drones are being developed, costing up to $1,000, with a first-person view. However, it is noted that the turbulence created by the Shahed during flight makes it difficult to control smaller FPV drones.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces also use mobile anti-aircraft systems to destroy the Shahed-136, as they are easier to shoot down than missiles. However, the large number of attacks, including massive strikes on energy infrastructure, is depleting Ukraine's air defense system, The Guardian added.
Recall
Over the past month, Russia has carried out one of the largest attacks - 120 missiles and 90 drones simultaneously. As a result, energy infrastructure facilities were damaged, and power supply restrictions were imposed in some regions.
