The number of cases against Russian deserters doubled in 2024

The number of criminal cases against Russian deserters doubled in 2024 to 10308. Most cases were opened under the article on desertion, and in July a record of 1,100 new cases was set.
In 2024, the number of criminal cases against Russians who refused to go to war doubled: the courts received 10308 such criminal cases, while in 2023 there were 5517, UNN writes with reference to Meduza.

Since the beginning of the invasion, there are only 15,902 open court cases against Russians who refused to participate in hostilities against Ukraine.
Most often, cases were opened under the article on leaving a part - more than 14182 cases were submitted to the courts, of which 12460 have already been decided.
There were 1,037 cases filed under the article on failure to execute an order, and 683 cases under the article on desertion.
In July 2024, Russian investigators set a record by bringing nearly 1,100 new cases to court.
In the same month, Russian courts issued a record 900 decisions in such cases.
