Putin staged a pompous celebration of Russia's “fleet day” to intimidate the West and justify Russian militarism. He promised to build up the navy and equip it with hypersonic missiles.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin organized a pompous celebration on the "Day of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs" and "Day of the Baptism of the Russian Federation", uncharacteristic of previous years, aimed at intimidating the West and ideologically justifying Russian militarism.
