Details

Before crossing into Dorohusk, the leader of the protest, Wojciech Los, announced that after 13:00 local time (14:00 Kyiv time), Polish farmers would let trucks standing in line to the border from the Polish side.

He emphasized that this does not mean the suspension or end of the protest in front of the border with Ukraine.

"This is our gesture to Ukrainian drivers so that they can return to their families, to their country, which is still in a difficult situation, in a time of war, where they have to confront Russia," he said.

He noted that for 35 days Polish farmers have been blocking the road in the direction of the checkpoint with Ukraine.

He said that a press conference was scheduled for 13:00 in front of the checkpoint, and then the farmers would temporarily unblock traffic towards the border. When asked for how long, he replied that "we are opening the border and that's it, but we don't know for how long yet.

"Now we are waiting for the reaction of the Prime Minister, the Minister (of Agriculture - ed.) and Ukraine," Los said.

He also explained that the traffic from Poland to Ukraine would not be temporarily blocked here. He also noted that the protesters would remain at the Dorohusk checkpoint.

"We are releasing Ukrainian drivers from Poland, but the blocking of trucks traveling from Ukraine to Poland will continue," the protest leader added.

Officer Ewa Czyż of the Chełm police said that in the morning the line to the Dorohuskie crossing was 8 km long and reached the town of Brzezno. There are about 300 trucks there. According to her, the estimated waiting time for clearance is about 70 hours. So far, protesters have been letting two trucks per hour cross from Ukraine.

"Protesters at the border regularly let humanitarian and military aid, live animals and buses pass through," the statement said,

Farmers are reportedly protesting at all automobile checkpoints on the border with Ukraine in  Lubelskie Voivodeship. They oppose the introduction of the EU's Green Deal and the import of goods from Ukraine.
