NACP finds three officials with undeclared cryptocurrency worth UAH 180 million

The NACP found facts of unreliable declaration of cryptocurrency worth about UAH 200 million during the verification of declarations. The NACP found violations in the declarations of officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor's Office and a city council member.

The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (NAPC), in the course of full audits of declarations, has established the fact of unreliable declaration of cryptocurrency worth almost UAH 200 million. This was reported by UNN with reference to the NAPC.

In particular, the deputy head of the Regional Service Center of the MIA's GSC in Mykolaiv region declared bitcoin worth UAH 100 million in hryvnia equivalent at the end of the reporting period in his 2021 declaration, but did not confirm its presence during a full inspection.

The declaration for 2022 contained false information about the availability of cryptocurrency worth more than UAH 48 million. The declarant explained the inability to confirm the presence of part of the cryptocurrency by the theft of a cold crypto wallet and the key to it, and as for the other part of the asset, the official provided documents that did not allow to confirm the veracity of the declared information

Also, in , an employee of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office was found to have declared false information worth more than UAH 23 million in his 2022 declaration.

It is noted that in relation to cryptocurrency alone, the official provided inaccurate information worth UAH 22.5 million, in particular, about the presence, quantity and value of his numerous digital assets, and did not mention some of them at all.

The man himself explains that part of the cryptocurrency was given to him by the exchange, which was operating in test mode and was not connected to the blockchain, and the indicated price of the cryptocurrency is an advertising campaign of the exchange to attract customers, not the real price. 

Meanwhile, a deputy of the Vinnytsia City Council, as the Agency found, indicated in his 2021 declaration that his family member had 20 bitcoin tokens worth more than UAH 2 million and DOTs worth almost UAH 7.5 million, but could not confirm this during a full inspection.

At the same time, a member of the declarant's family provided a screenshot that does not allow establishing the veracity of the information provided in the declaration, and with regard to Bitcoin, he also noted that access to the asset on the specified exchange has been lost. Based on the results of the full audit, it was found that the declaration contained false information totaling UAH 12 million

The agency emphasized that based on the NACP's substantiated conclusions, law enforcement officers initiated criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 366-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (declaration of false information).
