Lithuania's ambassador to NATO expressed support for the French initiative on the possible deployment of Western troops to Ukraine. According to him, this does not require a NATO permit, it can be national decisions of individual countries.

Lithuania supports France's idea of possibly sending Western troops to Ukraine. If Paris decides to do so, it does not need NATO permission, Lithuanian ambassador to NATO Devidas Matulonis said in comments to Radio Liberty, reports UNN

"These can be national decisions, a group of countries, a coalition that wants to join this initiative. It is not necessary to have a NATO approval or label," the ambassador said.

However, as noted by Matulonis, now sending  troops to Ukraine is "just an idea" and different countries have different positions on this.

"This is a consistent French position. We have always had a positive attitude to this, " the ambassador stressed .

Matulonis believes that such a discussion can be raised by NATO foreign ministers at a meeting next week: "first of all, the process of training troops depends on them, and perhaps some countries will join sooner or later.
