Israel has expressed outrage over the leak of confidential information from a Signal chat discussing plans for strikes against the Houthis in Yemen. The leak may have compromised an intelligence source.

Israeli officials have expressed outrage after it emerged that a chat in the Signal app, involving senior officials in the administration of US President Donald Trump, had caused a leak of confidential intelligence. This was reported by CBS News, citing sources, writes UNN.

In particular, it concerned information received from a source in Yemen, which Israel passed on to the United States. The chat contained messages that could have compromised the source who provided the data.

According to The Wall Street Journal, on Thursday, Israelis first reported to American officials about Mike Waltz, President Trump's national security advisor, who created a group chat and apparently mistakenly added Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic. The messages discussed possible plans to strike Iranian-backed Houthi militants in Yemen, who have repeatedly launched missiles at Israel and targeted shipping in the Red Sea.

On March 15, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegset sent a message to a group chat consisting of the so-called Committee of Principals - senior officials of the National Security Council, which includes cabinet members and other senior US officials.

Sources who spoke with CBS News say Israeli intelligence is outraged that intelligence they provided to the US was disclosed. It is unclear what the consequences will be between the US and Israel due to this situation, if any.

Recall

The editor of "The Atlantic" Jeffrey Goldberg reported that he was accidentally added to a chat in Signal, where he witnessed discussions about future attacks on Houthi targets in Yemen.

According to him, he accepted the connection request, hoping that it was a real national security advisor, and that he wanted to talk about Ukraine, Iran or some other important matters.
