After the brain death of a 13-year-old boy from Odesa region, his parents agreed to organ donation. Thanks to this decision, five patients of different ages received life-saving heart, lung, kidney, and liver transplants.

A teenager from Odesa region posthumously gave five people a second chance at life. On the basis of the Zakharivska Hospital, doctors performed explantation of organs (heart, kidneys, lungs, and liver) for transplantation to seriously ill patients who had been waiting for donation for years, UNN reports citing the Odesa RMA.

"On November 28, a 13-year-old boy from Odesa region was hospitalized in Zakhariv hospital with acute cerebrovascular accident. On December 4, doctors diagnosed brain death. After a difficult decision, his parents agreed to donate his brain," the statement said.

Thanks to this, five recipients received a long-awaited transplant:

- A lung was transplanted to a 35-year-old mother of five from Mykolaiv Oblast;

- an 8-year-old boy from Dnipropetrovs'k region received a heart;

- kidneys - a 9-year-old boy from Lviv and a 6-year-old child from Vinnytsia region;

- The liver was donated to a 17-year-old girl from Kyiv.

All transplants were successful and the patients are in stable condition. The treatment is funded by the state under the Medical Guarantee Program.
