"If Trump knows how to end this war, he should tell us today," Zelenskiy said in an interview with Bloomberg Television in Kyiv on Wednesday. - "If there are risks to Ukrainian independence, if we lose our statehood, we want to be prepared for this, we want to know.
The former US president, who is leading President Joe Biden in the polls ahead of the November elections, "boasted that he would end the war before his inauguration in January," the newspaper said. In last week's televised debate, Trump condemned the billions of dollars spent on Ukraine's defense, saying that Kyiv "is not winning the war.
In a nearly hour-long interview, the Ukrainian leader reportedly spoke about delays in arms deliveries from Western allies and said he was "potentially ready" to meet with Trump to hear his team's proposals.
"They cannot plan my life and the lives of our people and our children," he said. - "We want to understand whether we will have strong US support in November or whether we will be left alone.
Zelensky, the newspaper writes, "rejected the idea that Ukrainian and Russian forces are at a standstill on the battlefield, saying that the military is in a better position in terms of manpower than it was a few months ago, and the new offensive is a matter of arming their brigades.
And while he praised the $61 billion aid package approved by the U.S. Congress this year-after a six-month delay-he said military equipment was taking too long to reach the front lines.
"This is the biggest tragedy of this war, that we are really waiting a long, long, long time between the decision and the real fact," Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian leader also noted that China could play a "huge role" in resolving the conflict, as Moscow is highly dependent on its export market. He suggested that the United States and China, if they put aside their differences, could work together to end the war.
