IAEA experts continue to hear explosions near Zaporizhzhia NPP. Equipment is being serviced, but access to parts of the plant is limited.

The nuclear safety situation at the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) remains extremely difficult, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said today. According to him, during the week, IAEA experts continued to hear explosions at different distances from the site. UNN reports this with reference to  the agency's press service.

In recent days, the IAEA team observed the ongoing maintenance of the main electrical transformer components of reactor unit No. 3, which were disassembled for maintenance.

It is reported that after completion of the maintenance, tests will be carried out to ensure the transformer's performance before it is returned to operation.

The IAEA experts also observed scheduled maintenance activities in the reactor hall and nuclear auxiliary building of Unit 6. They did not report any nuclear safety or security issues. 

However, it is noted that during the visit to the turbine hall of the same block, the group was again denied access to its western part.
