The Security Service of Ukraine detained an FSB agent who was trying to establish the exact coordinates of a military facility of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in order to adjust an enemy air strike on it in Sumy region.

The Security Service of Ukraine detained an "ex-regional" FSB agent who guided Russian bombs into Sumy region, the SBU reported on Monday, UNN reported.

The SBU reportedly prevented a Russian air strike on the new defense lines on the border of Sumy region.

"As a result of a special operation, the SBU detained an FSB agent red-handed who was conducting additional reconnaissance near the defense line in the region. According to the investigation, the detainee was a former local 'functionary' of the banned Party of Regions," the SBU said.

He was reportedly recruited remotely by an FSB officer after the de-occupation of Sumy region.

According to the intelligence service, during the reconnaissance raid, the suspect "tried to establish the exact coordinates of a military facility of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in order to adjust the enemy air strike on it." The aggressor planned to use guided missile strikes to fire on Ukrainian fortifications, the SBU said.

During the detention, the offender's cell phone was seized, from which he tried to send the aggressor a photo and geolocation of the potential "target".

"Thanks to the SBU's prompt response, the SBU thwarted an attempt by the Russian intelligence service to obtain an intelligence 'report' and use it to prepare air attacks," the SBU said.

The detainee was served a notice of suspicion under Part 2 Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law). The attacker is in custody. He faces life imprisonment.
