German Foreign Minister Wadephul has arrived in Kyiv

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul arrived in Kyiv on the morning of August 22. He said that the purpose of his visit was to demonstrate continued support for Ukraine, as well as to discuss assistance ahead of the next winter. This is reported by DW, as UNN reports.

Details

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul noted that he had deliberately come to Kyiv ahead of the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence. According to him, Germany thereby wants to reaffirm its support once again.

I deliberately wanted to be here during the days when the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence is being marked, in order to once again demonstrate Germany’s continued support for Ukraine. While we are in the middle of holidays and the vacation season, Ukraine is suffering devastating attacks and strikes again and again. People here suffer every day - and not only at night - from constant brutal Russian strikes aimed primarily at the civilian population. We see all this suffering, we see how this country is fighting, and we will continue to support it

- the minister noted.

He also emphasized that Ukraine continues to need international assistance. Wadephul spoke separately about the need to prepare Ukrainian infrastructure for the next heating season in advance.

As last winter showed, Putin primarily attacked Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, so together with my French counterpart Jean-Noël Barrot, I wrote to many countries asking them to help and take appropriate measures so that Ukraine could get through the next winter

- the official explained.

The German Foreign Minister also emphasized the importance of a common position among European countries regarding Russia’s war against Ukraine. According to him, Europe must show that Russia will not achieve its goals in Ukraine.

In my view, it is important that Europe show in this situation that Putin will not achieve his goals here in Ukraine, that we will continue to support Ukraine. And also that we are, of course, ready at any moment to support and accompany Ukraine in its negotiations with Russia; however, for these negotiations to take place at all, we must continue to provide support to Ukraine

- Wadephul emphasized.
