Tbilisi has condemned russia for illegally holding presidential elections in the occupied Georgian regions and opening polling stations there, which violates Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia has condemned the holding of the presidential elections in the occupied regions of the country and the illegal opening of polling stations there. This was reported by UNN with reference to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Details

The ministry emphasized that holding any elections in the occupied territories is illegal under the occupation, which is recognized, including by international courts.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia calls on the russian federation to cease its actions against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia and to fulfill its international obligations, including the ceasefire agreement of August 12, 2008, brokered by the European Union

In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia appealed to the international community to properly assess and respond to russia's further illegal actions in the occupied regions.
