In Odesa region, a group of people posing as representatives of the TCR and the police stopped men of military age on the streets, reportedly came to the attention of law enforcement officers. For one "patrol", the accomplices could receive from 40 thousand hryvnias.

"The perpetrators, using military and police uniforms, threatened the detainees with forced delivery to the TCR, but offered not to do so for money. If the "detainees" refused, the perpetrators used physical and psychological violence," the statement said.

It is noted that in one case, the accomplices were waiting for their victim near his home. They accused the man of evading mobilization and said that they had to immediately take him to the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support. The perpetrators pushed the victim against a fence and then began beating him on the legs, torso and head.

"After that, the defendants said that the man had to pay immediately if he wanted to avoid mobilization. Worried for his life and health, the man gave them more than $3,000," the police said.

In addition, it is noted that one of the group members was a former police officer who was charged in several criminal proceedings after his service. Two more of them have repeatedly had problems with the law for committing a number of crimes: involvement of minors in criminal activity, robbery committed by a group of people, and theft.

"The SBU Rapid Response Unit detained the conspirators red-handed. Authorized searches were conducted at the suspects' places of residence, during which elements of uniforms, money, bank cards, and mobile phones were seized. In addition, law enforcement officers seized and sent for expert examination weapons, powdery substances and other means for the use of drugs," the statement said.

The members of the criminal group were detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and placed in a temporary detention center. Odesa police investigators have already served them a notice of suspicion under Part 4 of Art. 189 (Extortion) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. They face up to 12 years in prison.
