EU leaders will support Ukraine and Moldova at the summit and condemn the actions of the Georgian government

At the summit on December 19, the leaders of the European Union intend to reaffirm their support for Ukraine and Moldova, while condemning the actions of the Georgian government, which brutally suppresses opposition protests. The EU countries will once again emphasize "the principle that no initiative on Ukraine will be implemented without Ukraine." 

The leaders also plan to positively assess the presidential elections in Moldova, which is a candidate for EU membership, and promise to continue cooperation with this country. 

The European Council highly appreciates the authorities of the Republic Of Moldova for the successful holding of presidential elections and a referendum on fixing EU membership in the Constitution.,

The authors of the text also criticize "hybrid attempts to undermine the country's democratic institutions.

At the same time, they will express "serious concern" about the latest events in Georgia amid the brutal suppression of anti-government protests and the decision of the Georgian Dream party to stop the country's accession to the EU until 2018.

"The European Council strongly condemns violence against peaceful protesters. The Georgian authorities must respect the right to freedom of Assembly and expression and refrain from the use of force. All acts of violence must be investigated and those responsible brought to justice," the document says.

The European Council will emphasize the Union's readiness to support the European aspirations of the Georgian people.
