CIA Director Warns of Risk of Ukraine's Defeat by the End of the Year

The CIA director warns that there is a real risk of Ukraine's defeat by Russia by the end of 2024 if Congress does not pass a military aid bill.
Ukraine may be defeated in the war with Russia as early as the end of 2024 if the US Congress does not pass a bill to help Ukraine, CIA Director William Burns said in a speech on Capitol Hill, Politico reports, UNN writes.
"With military assistance, both practical and psychological, the Ukrainians are fully capable of holding out until 2024 and disproving Putin's arrogant view that time is on his side," Burns said.
However, according to him, if the Congress does not vote to help Ukraine, "the picture will be much more dire."
There is a very real risk that Ukrainians may lose on the battlefield by the end of 2024, or at least put Putin in a position where he can essentially dictate the terms of a political settlement

The bill on assistance to Ukraine includes a requirement for the US president to provide ATACMS missiles. The bill also provides, among other things, for the allocation of $61 billion, including $23 billion to replenish the US arsenals.
House Speaker Mike Johnson said that the US aid bill for Ukraine will be put to a vote on Saturday night.
