"Attempt to bribe the leadership of the Ministry of Reconstruction: fugitive MP sentenced to 8 years in prison," the statement reads.
It is reported that the court took into account the evidence collected during the pre-trial investigation by NABU detectives and SAPO prosecutors and found the MP guilty of committing a crime under Part 4 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The court sentenced the MP to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property and deprivation of the right to hold certain positions for three years.
The HACC verdict can be appealed within 30 days to the court of appeal.
The SAPO reminded that on September 18, 2024, the MP failed to appear in court. The MP did not inform the court and the prosecutor about the reasons for his absence. The defendant's defense attorneys also failed to inform the court of their client's whereabouts and emphasized the lack of communication with him.
On September 19, 2024, the HACC granted the motion of the SAPO prosecutor and put the MP on the national and international wanted list.
After the wanted list was issued, the court issued a ruling on special court proceedings. Despite the fact that the trial was to be held in the absence of the defendant, the latter was given the opportunity to participate in court hearings via videoconference, provide testimony and even make closing arguments and deliver the final statement.
