Almost half of the communities in Ukraine did not allocate funds to replenish library collections

Almost half of the territorial communities in Ukraine have not allocated funds to replenish library collections for two years, and the communities of Chernivtsi and Zakarpattia regions have allocated the least funding.
47% of communities have not allocated funds for the expansion of library collections for two years. The least funds were allocated by communities in Chernivtsi and Zakarpattia regions, as reported by the Ukrainian Book Institute, UNN reports.

The Ukrainian Book Institute conducted a survey of 1154 territorial communities where there are no hostilities on the financing of purchases to replenish the library collections of public libraries in 2023 and plans for 2024. The survey received 800 responses:
- About a third of the communities (36%) managed to find funds to finance library purchases in both years. Kyiv is among them. The largest number of such communities was found in Lviv region (58%), and the smallest - in Bukovyna (15%).
- Approximately half of the communities across Ukraine (47%) have not allocated funds to replenish library collections for two years. Most of them were found in Chernivtsi and Zakarpattia oblasts (77% each), and the least - in Lviv oblast (20%).
-22% of communities allocated funds in 2023, but decided to stop this practice in 2014.
- 11% of communities have planned book expenditures for 2024, although they did not do so last year.
