For reference

Pelicans are rare birds listed in the Red Book of Ukraine, among the largest wetland birds in the world, with a wingspan of up to 3.2 m and weighing up to 11 kg. Pelicans are paddle-footed birds - they have a well-developed swimming membrane on their feet, which is turned inward. They use it to row skillfully and quickly.

Out of 8 species of pelicans, 2 species live in Ukraine - Dalmatian and Dalmatian pink. A characteristic feature of the Dalmatian pelican is the corresponding feathers on the back of the head, sometimes quite long. Dalmatian pelicans in Southeastern Europe form a single population, so the birds can easily migrate throughout the region. Pink pelicans are rather large birds that have white plumage with a pale pink tint.

When traveling in the air, birds use rising currents to soar without exerting much effort.

Recall

Dozens of pink and Dalmatian pelicans have returned to the Kyiv Zoo's lakes, enjoying clean water, natural stones, fresh fish and sunbathing spots.
