A solar eclipse will temporarily reduce electricity production in Europe

The partial solar eclipse on August 12 will lead to a reduction in solar power generation in the EU by nearly 9,700 MW. No disruptions to electricity supplies are expected, as the eclipse will occur after the production peak.

On August 12, a partial solar eclipse will cause a short-term decline in solar power generation in Europe. At its peak, generation in EU countries could fall by almost 9,700 MW, which is about 3.7% of installed solar capacity. Le Figaro reports this, citing AFP, writes UNN.

According to estimates by French grid operator RTE, solar power generation in France could decrease by approximately 1,800 MW, or about 3% of national electricity production, if the weather is clear.
Despite the temporary drop in generation, RTE assured that consumers should not experience any power outages. The operator explained that the eclipse will occur after the peak of solar power generation and that the energy system is prepared for such a scenario.
The largest reductions in generation are forecast in Germany and Spain, while the coordination of European energy systems during the eclipse will be ensured by the ENTSO-E network of operators.
