Great Britain has authorized the import of fuel derived from Russian oil via third countries. The decision is attributed to market shortages and rising global prices.

The United Kingdom will effectively ease some sanctions against Russia by allowing the import of diesel and aviation fuel produced from Russian oil in third countries, specifically India and Turkey. This was reported by Bloomberg, according to UNN.

As noted, the corresponding general license was published by the British authorities on Tuesday evening and takes effect as early as Wednesday. The document contains no time limits and applies only to diesel and aviation fuel.

Bloomberg links this decision to growing problems in the global petroleum products market due to the war surrounding Iran. Following the start of US and Israeli strikes on Iran in late February, fuel supplies from the region decreased, and prices for diesel and aviation fuel rose sharply.

The agency notes that the new license softens the impact of sanctions previously introduced to limit Russia's revenues from oil exports. Following the invasion of Ukraine, Moscow redirected a significant portion of its crude oil supplies to new markets, particularly India.
