Russian attack on Chornobyl storage facility – Sybiha reacts to statement by 47 states and the EU

47 states and the EU condemned the Russian attack on the nuclear storage facility near the Chornobyl NPP. Andrii Sybiha called on the world to increase pressure on the aggressor and stop nuclear blackmail.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine commented on the joint statement of 47 states and the EU within the framework of the IAEA Board of Governors regarding the Russian attack on Ukraine's Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility near the Chornobyl NPP. This was reported by UNN with reference to Sybiha's post on the social network "X".

Details

As the Minister noted, it is time to increase pressure on the aggressor to stop strikes on Ukrainian civilians and nuclear infrastructure and to return the Zaporizhzhia NPP to Ukraine.

"The signal is clear: Russia continues to undermine nuclear safety and security through its illegal war against Ukraine. I thank our partners for their unwavering support. Now is the time to take action to stop Russia's nuclear blackmail,"

On the night of June 7, the enemy attacked the CSFSF site with a drone, partially destroying the container reception building. As reported by Energoatom, the radiation situation remains within normal limits.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine called this incident an act of nuclear terrorism.

At the same time, the Security Service of Ukraine qualified the strike on the building of the Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility near the Chornobyl NPP as a war crime.
