Poland is ready to host US troops from Germany to strengthen NATO's flank. Trump suggested such a possibility due to good relations with the Polish authorities.

Warsaw is ready to host more American soldiers, Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said on Saturday. This comes after US President Donald Trump signaled he could move troops from neighboring Germany, UNN reports, citing Bloomberg.

"Poland is ready to host additional American troops to strengthen NATO's eastern flank and ensure even better protection for Europe," Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated on X.

"The Polish-American alliance is the cornerstone of our security," Kosiniak-Kamysz said.

The statement followed Trump's hint at the possibility of transferring American soldiers to Poland.

In a speech at the White House, Trump praised America's relationship with Warsaw and Polish President Karol Nawrocki, a nationalist whom his administration supported in last year's presidential election.

"We have a great relationship with Poland, I have a great relationship with the president, I supported him and he won," Trump said. "He's a great fighter, he's a great guy, I like him a lot, so it's possible," Trump added when asked if he would move US troops to Poland or another country on the eastern flank if they were withdrawn from Germany.

Last week, the US president announced plans to reduce the US military presence in Germany by more than 5,000 troops, heightening fears of NATO fragmentation.

In a message posted after Trump's statement on Germany, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, a political opponent of Nawrocki, said the transatlantic NATO alliance risks falling apart and urged all members to reverse "this disastrous trend."

Tusk has taken a more restrained stance on Trump's policies, consistently emphasizing that the US is a key ally for Poland, where about 10,000 American troops are currently stationed.

Poland's location on NATO's eastern flank exposes it to increased regional security risks, particularly from Russia following its invasion of Ukraine and military presence in Belarus.

Poland spends nearly 5% of its GDP on defense. The country's Finance Minister Andrzej Domański said this week that Warsaw is financially ready to host more American troops.
