US continues strikes on Iran
According to CNN, on Tuesday night, US military forces carried out new strikes on Iran. The targets were command centers and maritime infrastructure facilities. Iranian state media reported explosions in Bandar Abbas, on Qeshm Island, and in the Beman area of Hormozgan province.
At the same time, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that the crew of a vessel that was hit in the Strait of Hormuz abandoned the ship and is in a lifeboat. According to MarineTraffic, the number of vessels passing through the strait continues to decline, although the US military claims that since the beginning of May, they have facilitated the safe passage of about 900 commercial vessels.
The escalation of the conflict has also affected other countries in the region. Kuwait reported intercepting hostile missiles and drones, and Jordan reported destroying three missiles launched from Iranian territory. Meanwhile, the US continues to strengthen its military presence in the Middle East, deploying additional tanker aircraft to the region.
According to CNN, international mediators have proposed a 10-day ceasefire to the US and Iran, but Washington downplayed the likelihood that President Donald Trump would agree to such a proposal. At the same time, Israel launched a pilot program for a partial withdrawal of troops from southern Lebanon as part of agreements brokered by the US.
