In the first half of 2026, 79,516 marriages were registered in Ukraine, which is 16% more than in the same period last year. At the same time, 12,175 couples divorced through the civil registry offices, which is 4% less than last year. This is reported by Opendatabot, UNN reports.
Almost every second marriage in Ukraine is concluded online
According to the Ministry of Justice, on average, 13,300 couples get married in Ukraine every month. At the same time, statistics show that traditionally more marriages are concluded in the second half of the year. In particular, last year the difference was as much as 41%.
The most popular dates for marriage this year were February 14, when 1,248 couples got married, and the mirror date 26.06.2026, on which 2,528 marriages were registered.
The largest number of marriages in the first half of the year was registered in Kyiv — 19,928. Compared to the same period last year, their number in the capital increased by 38%.
In addition, 30,488 couples, or four out of ten newlyweds, took advantage of the opportunity to register a marriage online.
However, the Dnipropetrovsk region can currently be called the true wedding capital of Ukraine: 15,545 couples. Compared to the corresponding period last year, the number of marriages here increased as much as 2.7 times. The top three is closed by the Lviv region — 8,909 marriages (an increase of 1.9 times). In total, these 3 regions account for more than half of all marriages. This dynamic in three regions of the country is likely related to the spread of online marriages. After all, it is in Kyiv, Lviv, and Dnipro that the Digital Offices of State Civil Registration currently operate. In general, online marriage registration has gained immense popularity. Since the beginning of the year, 4 out of 10 newlyweds got married in this way. In the remaining regions, the number of marriages decreased compared to the corresponding period last year
12,175 couples divorced through the civil registry offices in the first half of 2026. This is almost at the level of the corresponding period last year — 4% less. However, not only marriages but also divorces occur more often in the second half of the year — on average, by 30%
However, in two regions, the number of divorces decreased. In particular, in the Zhytomyr region (−20%) and the Poltava region (−19%). But such positive dynamics are more of an exception than a trend. For example, in the Ternopil region, 17% more couples divorced than in the same period last year, in the Zakarpattia region — +15%, while in the Chernihiv region — +11%.
The largest number of divorces through the civil registry offices is in the capital — 1,801, in the Dnipropetrovsk region — 1,125, in the Kyiv region — 898, in the Odesa region — 880, and in the Kharkiv region — 874. It is worth noting that the statistics of divorces through the civil registry offices are not exhaustive, as they do not include couples who dissolved their relationship through the court. Only families without children and without property disputes can dissolve a marriage in the civil registry office by mutual consent. In other cases, the spouses must go to court.
Overall, currently, on average, every fourth divorce occurs through the civil registry offices
