According to local authorities in Spain, one person died in Madrid as a result of a fire caused by a candle. And in Taboadel, Galicia, a married couple and their son died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
The disappearance of electricity disrupted transport, thousands of people were stuck in metro tunnels. Businesses closed prematurely without fulfilling their plans, and people were left without mobile communications for many hours.
As of now, the state of emergency in Spain, declared yesterday, has been lifted in all regions except Valencia, where the authorities asked to keep it in effect until the entire infrastructure is restored.
