The main condition set by Athens from the beginning is that the participation of Greek troops in the peacekeeping mission in Ukraine is possible only after the signing of a ceasefire agreement.
It is reported by UNN with reference to Η Καθημερινή.
A summit of leaders on security issues in Ukraine is taking place in Paris, at which various scenarios are being considered that are aimed at strengthening peacekeeping initiatives and countering the further deployment of Russian aggression.
The presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the meeting on Ukraine is another opportunity for Greece to confirm the terms of participation
According to the publication "Kathimerini", the head of the Greek government, Mitsotakis, will repeat the clear condition "set by Athens from the beginning" - participation in international forces only after the signing of a ceasefire agreement in Ukraine.
In general, there are 3 conditions under which Greece will participate in international forces in Ukraine:
- ceasefire agreement;
- no deployment on Russian territory;
- a clear exit strategy in the event of the resumption of hostilities.
Greece is in favor of an operation under the supervision of the UN, believing that this will ensure broader international legitimacy.
If the mission continues, the following options are available for Greece:
- ground deployment in Ukraine;
- naval participation in the Black Sea.
The latter option is better aligned with Greece's defense priorities, the publication writes.
However, there are obstacles here: if Turkey's proposal to take command of the forces patrolling the sea is accepted, then Greece's role will need to be coordinated.
