France has proposed that the European Union introduce new sanctions against Russian disinformation and election interference operations around the world. This was reported by Bloomberg, according to UNN.

It is noted that the French proposal, which has already been supported by Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, and Poland, will allow the EU to strengthen sanctions against individuals and entities involved in Russian-sponsored destabilizing activities around the world.
The document, which was reviewed by the publication, states that "destabilizing activities carried out by Russian-affiliated actors have also intensified across Europe, as the Russian regime has taken steps to undermine democracy, stability and the rule of law through various hybrid tools.
In the run-up to the EU parliamentary elections in June, the EU has made it a priority to combat the growing wave of Russian disinformation that seeks to divide allies on issues such as support for Ukraine and to damage relations with the so-called Global South.
