As part of the criminal investigation into the explosions of ammunition depots in Vyshneve near Kyiv, the director and his deputy of a defense enterprise have been detained. They are suspected of official negligence that caused deaths. This was reported by Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko, reports UNN.
"Today, the general director of a defense sector enterprise and his deputy were detained under Article 615 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. They have been notified of suspicion of official negligence that caused grave consequences and deaths (Part 2, Part 3 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), and a motion has been served to select a preventive measure in the form of non-alternative custody. Both officials have been dismissed from their positions," the Prosecutor General's statement reads.

On the night of July 6, 2026, the armed forces of the russian federation launched a missile strike on the Kyiv region. A 9M723 ballistic missile of the Iskander system hit a warehouse of an enterprise in Vyshneve. After the impact, a large-scale secondary detonation of ammunition began, lasting for hours.
"7 dead. 29 wounded. Over 600 evacuated. 13 hectares of residential buildings in ruins. These are not just the consequences of another russian missile strike. According to the investigation, the scale of the tragedy was increased by the official negligence of specific people in the rear," Kravchenko reported.
The investigation established: a significant amount of ammunition was stored in premises that categorically did not meet safety requirements and lacked the necessary permits. The warehouse was not intended for such storage, especially long-term.
"The placement of such objects near civilian buildings is directly prohibited by legislation, government decrees, and decisions of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff. These requirements were ignored. From the enterprise's fence to the nearest buildings was about 24 meters, and to one of the private houses – less than 18," the Prosecutor General explained.
Kravchenko emphasized that the russian missile was the root cause, but the scale of the subsequent detonation and its consequences were determined precisely by the neglect of basic rules for storing ammunition and ensuring people's safety.
"The officials responsible for these decisions could not have been unaware of the risks," Kravchenko stated.
According to the Prosecutor General, the detention and notification of suspicion to the director of the enterprise and his deputy are the first procedural decisions in this criminal proceeding.
"The investigation must establish the entire chain of decisions: who approved the placement of ammunition on this particular territory, who was responsible for their safe storage, who was supposed to exercise control, and why these violations were not stopped.
Separately, we are checking the version regarding possible agent influence of the russian federation and the leakage of information about the ammunition storage location in favor of the aggressor state.
The investigation continues. We will identify all those whose decisions, inaction, or intentional actions led to this tragedy," the Prosecutor General stated.
