A new direct rail link from Prague to Copenhagen via Berlin and Hamburg brings back a convenient way to travel between some of Europe's most popular cities without using planes. This was reported by Euronews, according to UNN.
On Friday, May 1, a new direct route was opened from Prague to Hamburg and onwards to Copenhagen, connecting three countries in one continuous journey,
Notably, this is the first time in over ten years that the cities have been connected by a direct rail link.
The publication highlights that Czech Railways (ČD), the largest rail carrier in the Czech Republic, has launched two daily round-trip services between Prague's main railway station (Hlavní Nádraží) and Hamburg in Germany. One of these two services then continues to the Danish capital, Copenhagen.
It is emphasized that both trains will also stop in the German cities of Dresden and Berlin, making them an ideal option for both tourists and business travelers.
The new route, jointly operated by ČD, Deutsche Bahn (DB), and the Danish company Danske Statsbaner (DSB), was launched following the completion of a major overhaul of the line between Berlin and Hamburg.
As the publication notes, despite the hundreds of kilometers between the destinations, the train journey takes less time than one might expect.
Data shows that the journey from Prague to Hamburg takes 6 hours and 41 minutes without transfers, while the trip from the Czech Republic to Copenhagen lasts just over 13 hours, thanks to trains that can reach speeds of up to 230 km/h.
Up to 555 passengers will be able to use the newly launched ČD ComfortJet series trains, which offer a wide range of amenities, including an on-board restaurant, Wi-Fi, bicycle storage, and a children's cinema,
It is added that the high-speed trains are equipped with wheelchair lifts, as well as radio-wave-permeable windows, providing passengers with better mobile connectivity and signal reception.
Notably, the new connection between Prague and Copenhagen is one of the first of 10 European Commission pilot projects to begin operations.
