Kramatorsk

Administrative center of Donetsk Oblast
Kramatorsk is a city in the Donetsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine, located on the banks of the Kazennyi Torets River, a right tributary of the Siverskyi Donets. Its pre-war population was estimated at 147,145 people (2022 estimate), and in July 2025, the number was reported to be around 53,000 people. The city has served as the temporary administrative center of Donetsk Oblast since October 2014 and is also the administrative center of the Kramatorsk Raion. The city was founded in 1868 around a railway station and developed into an important industrial center for mechanical engineering. Kramatorsk is considered a large urban agglomeration within the Donbas, historically rich in natural resources, including chalk, sand, and valuable clays.
