President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree commemorating Hetman Ivan Mazepa and erecting a monument to him in Kyiv. This is reported by the Office of the President, UNN reports.

Details

Decree No. 781/2026 was signed by the president on August 21, 2026. The document stipulates that the Cabinet of Ministers must organize an open competition for the best design project for a monument to Ivan Mazepa.

The head of state instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to take the following measures to perpetuate the memory of Ukrainian Hetman Ivan Mazepa, given his outstanding role in political, educational, and cultural activities and in the struggle for Ukrainian statehood:

  • organize an open competition for the best design project for a monument to Ukrainian Hetman Ivan Mazepa;
    • ensure the design and construction of a monument to Ukrainian Hetman Ivan Mazepa based on the results of the open competition;
      • jointly with the Kyiv City State Administration, resolve, in accordance with the established procedure, the issue of the location of the monument to Ukrainian Hetman Ivan Mazepa in the city of Kyiv and its erection;
        • ensure, in accordance with the established procedure, the financing of the measures provided for by this Decree.

          The Decree enters into force on the day of its publication.
