Ukraine has officially moved Children's Day to November. June 1 marks Global Day of Parents, World Milk Day, and the religious feast of the Holy Spirit.
The first day of summer brings with it not only warmth but also significant changes to the Ukrainian holiday calendar, as well as notable spiritual and international events. For a long time, June 1 in Ukraine was firmly associated with the celebration of childhood. However, we welcome the year 2026 with an updated calendar, reports UNN.
International Children's Day (and changes in Ukraine)
Globally, June 1 continues to be traditionally observed as International Children's Day. However, it is important to remember that in Ukraine, the official celebration of Children's Day has been moved to November 20 (World Children's Day, according to a 2025 Presidential Decree). This was done to celebrate it together with the rest of the world and to emphasize the protection of children's rights according to the standards of the UN Convention.
Despite the change in the official date, the international holiday continues, and the first day of summer remains a wonderful opportunity to pay attention to the little ones.
Global Day of Parents
Proclaimed by the UN in 2012, this holiday logically complements Children's Day. It was created to honor the role of parents worldwide, to thank them for their self-sacrifice, love, and daily care for harmonious development.
