Nelson Mandela International Day
Established by the UN in honor of the birthday of the outstanding human rights activist, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former president of South Africa. On this day, people are traditionally urged to dedicate 67 minutes of their time (one minute for each year of Mandela's struggle for equality) to helping others and community service.
World Listening Day
An ecological and cultural initiative. The goal of the day is to draw attention to acoustic ecology and the sound environment around us. Organizers urge people to pause for a moment and consciously listen to the sounds of nature or the rhythm of their city.

According to the new (New Julian) calendar, on July 18, the Orthodox Church honors Athanasius of Athos — the founder of the first and main monastery on Mount Athos. Among the people, this day was called "Athanasius Day" or "Moon Festival." It was believed that the moon on this day has special power: people went outside in the evening to observe it. If the moon is bright and clear, autumn will be warm and dry.
For those who follow the old (Julian) calendar: on July 18, the memory of Saint Sergius of Radonezh is honored, as well as the martyr Anna and the venerable martyr Cyril.
